 - Chris Largent

"Is astrology, when describing patterns of personality and future trends, fatalistic?  Do astrologers   assume that some events are just fated?  And are these caused by some notion of past-life karma?  Or is there another way to think about the destinies of individuals and communities?’  This alternative was the focus of our show.

Chris Largent has taught university-level philosophy and comparative religion for nearly forty years, lectured all over the United States, Canada, and England, and founded the Seventh Academy.  He’s given seminars at the New York Open Center, the World Future Society, the World Business Academy, and the Omega Institute.

Nov 23 2009 - Curtis Manwaring

Curtis Manwaring is the creator of Delphic Oracle and Timaeus  the only astrology software for creating  ancient Hellenistic charts  joined us to tell us about his exciting work in his upgrade of these great software.

"I originally encountered astrology in the late 60's but didn't start serious study until 1975.  Later in college I advanced in rank to obtain Hornbeck scholar status from the University of Denver.  By the late 80's my interest turned toward traditional astrology (particularly Lilly and horary) which eventually led to my interest in Project Hindsight.  The work of the

Project uncovered several techniques that did not exist in any software so I took it upon myself to develop software for these methods.  The first was Zodiacal Aphesis (now called Zodiacal Releasing) in 1997, the second was Timaeus which was a pilot test for the latest program to come which is Delphic Oracle."

Dec 28, 2009 -  Wendy Ashley: Mythic Astrologer

Wendy Ashley
is a Mythic Astrologer - which means that she  uses the horoscope as well as a remembered childhood experience to uncover that one myth that is a metaphoric parallel to her  client’s life. She struggles to help individuals see how the elements of that myth are evident in the situations and persons who are central to one’s life She does not use the Gods and Goddesses as metaphors for elements of the psychology of my client. In her view she thinks that usage has diminished astrology’s value and use Wendy  started her studies like everyone else with a study of what is called “traditional” astrology, but which she now calls “conventional Western psychological astrology.”

Wendy finds it significant that there is evidence that the Zodiac was not invented in the Middle East around 4,000 years ago. Some of the constellations, including some of the Zodiac constellations have been discovered painted upon the walls and ceilings of cave in Spain and France 20,000 years ago!   She touches on this in her book, Sticks and Stones; Naked-Eye Astronomy and Paleolithic Astrology.

On her website, she shares “I know I can never learn all that there is to know of myth and the sky and astrology -- but I keep at it. Today I have students who are aching to know how to discover which of the gods or goddesses has us in his or her grip.”

Every Summer Wendy holds a week long course on her mythic astrology.

Jan 4, 2010 -  Carol Tebbs: Rectification Astrologer

I’m pleased to have Carol Tebbs with us. Carol is an astrologer, teacher, lecturer and writer.  She is a Kepler College Board member and ISAR board member where she has also served as President.  Carol is also the author of  The Complete Book of Chart Rectification.  Carol will share with us on Chart Rectification.  Prior to the mid-20th century, it was common to round-off birth times to the nearest quarter hour, which can mean that the angles and cusps of the chart may be off by 4 degrees or more leading to an entirely different chart interpretation.

After doing ‘family footwork’ to clarify actual birth time, an astrologer can ask for 10-12 dates of important life events such as family deaths, job changes, marriages, illnesses, etc. to derive a birth time that more closely aligns the events with the astrological indicators.  In addition, there is software that aid in the rectification search.  With work and attention, an astrologer can create a reliable birth chart forever for interpretive and forecasting purposes.

March 29, 2010  -  Amir Bey,  Egyptian Cosmology

I first heard Amir, well known New York astrologer and artist,  speak at the Astrological Society of Princeton at his lecture on ‘Egypts Cosmic Religion’  and was intrigued with his topic and am most pleased to have him on the show.

Elements of the cosmology of the ancient Egyptians' religion significantly informed the structure of Western astrology.  Egypt had coinciding cycles between its geography, weather, the Nile River and the risings and settings of stellar bodies; understanding and predicting their confluences developed spiritual and scientific methods that were later amalgamized with Mesopotamian and Hellenistic concepts.  Egypt had a history of celestial observation for millennia, from the predynastic era through its dynastic period.  Its religion and its science are revealed in the tombs, papyri, and the temples that remain.

Amir discusses how Egypt's stellar and terrestrial cycles contributed to the concepts of ascending signs and houses, through their deification of stars and other practices that they developed.”

is the media director at the International Academy of Astrology (www.astrocollege.com) and is bringing you a new type of venue for a conference – the first-ever astrology conference held completely on-line.  This venue offers a  great opportunity for people to attend an astrology conference with some of the world's best astrologers without having to leave the comfort of their home and not incurring costly travel expenses. Chris Turner is the conference coordinator for the upcoming Breaking Down the Borders conference. If there is a "first" when it comes to astrology, renowned Australian astrologer Chris Turner can usually be found involved in it somewhere. She was the first to open a structured astrology school in Australia and the first to offer full-time astrology courses. She was the first "proper" astrologer to write a sun-sign column in a top selling Australian magazine. She was instrumental in creating the Federation of Australian Astrologers Exam Board and its longest serving foundation member. She was instrumental in forming the Professional arm of the FAA and its first Registrar. She was one of the first four astrology teachers to receive professional accreditation, the first astrologer to be used as a credible expert witness in a fraud trial and the first non-North American Steering Committee member of AFAN. So it's no surprise to find her at the helm of "Breaking Down the Borders," the first International Cyber Conference.

Chris has also published three books, two on astrology (The Astrology Book of Calculations and Star*Struck); lectured in the US, UK, Serbia, New Zealand and South Africa; and currently in "retirement," teaches "Manual Calculations" and "Astrology and the Media" for the IAA.

Gary P. Caton is an eclectic astrologer who embraces an organic, process-oriented approach to spiritual growth, exploration and transformation.  He has explored Shamanism and the Tarot, holds a degree in Counseling and has developed a unique multi-discipline approach to Astrology over 17 years.

In his Eclipse workshops, Gary explores the basic nature of the Eclipse as a Shadow phenomenon and a disruption of the dark/light fractal of time.  He explores the  basic mechanics of Eclipses including the Saros and Metonic series. Since each Saros series has a birth chart, the individual Eclipses carry this signature as well as their own unique chart.  He then shares how to work with Eclipse energies on an individual level, including various ritual activities to embrace and channel the Shadow energy of the Eclipse into some part of your life where you are feeling stuck, stagnant or repressed. In this way chaos may be transformed to catharsis.

Sept 20, 2010  - Carol Tebbs: A Culmination of Cycles Can Seem Like A Crisis

Carol Tebbs, Kepler College and ISAR board member, joins us once again; this time to discuss the Outer Planet cycles. Understanding the Saturn-Uranus mid-life phase and its separative influence helps us get beyond the ‘I want outta here’ impulse to deal with the actual underlying issues, and possibly save the relationship.

Outer planet cycles converge at several times during life, particularly related to phases of the Saturn cycle (29 ½ years) and the Uranus cycle (84 years). When each planetary cycle is observed in its quarter-cycle (90-degree) phases, they over-lap most dramatically at mid-life, around age 42-45 when both planets are in opposition to their natal position. Saturn is in its second half cycle (180-degrees) and at the same time Uranus is in its first half-cycle (180-degrees). If any natal personal planets or points are in close hard aspect to Saturn or Uranus, all of those planets will be stressfully activated at or near the same time = what SEEMS like a crises. Depending upon the decade of birth, the first quarter-cycles of Neptune and Pluto may also converge at age 42-45.  Join us in this most useful discussion.
